Alnmouth Sea Scouts at VE Celebrations in London

We are exteremely proud of Alice and Reubens (year 6) who were chosen to represent the Alnmouth Sea Scouts at the VE day celebrations in London last week.

The eight Sea Scouts and two leaders from 1st Alnmouth Sea Scout Troop were immaculately turned out in their uniforms and were immensely proud to be representing Northumberland.

Lead Volunteer, Graeme Popay, kindly sent us the following report and photographs:
The young people were initially a little bit overwhelmed and perhaps a bit nervous in such a big city, for some it was their first time in London, but they soon relaxed when they were greeted by the smiling faces, waves and shouts of "Hello Scouts" from tourists and office workers in London, we lost count of the number of people who told us that they were Scouts when they were younger and how very smart we all looked.

The concert was a mix of emotions with songs and firsthand account stories from service men and women, as well as people who had served on the homefront or were evacuees, many of which were well into their 100's. At times there wasn't a dry eye in the audience.

We cheered the Royal Family and applauded and waved flags after His Majesty the King's very moving speech. We sang and shouted, took part in a Mexican Wave and just had an amazing time.

We got several shout outs from Zoe Ball who fronted the show and before we knew it, it was over and we were winding our way back to the Tube station and heading towards our campsite for the night, very tired and very proud to have taken part in such a monumental occasion.

Huge congratulations to all who took part.
